2015 was a busy year in higher education. It saw a higher education Green Paper, the proposal of a teaching excellence framework, and more students than ever seeking career advice from their university. But, let's not forget the hundreds of blogs published by The Careers Group for offering news and career advice for students, graduates, career centres and employers.

2015 also saw us launch a new-look blog platform where you can subscribe to email updates in addition to a new blog dedicated to graduate recruiters.

If you work in a university careers centre – whether as a manager or frontline staff – you can’t do it alone.

It can be extremely hard to reach students and recent graduates, and shout about the career services you offer. Of course you have the basics: noticeboards, VLE/intranet, website, stands and presence at fairs. But you need even more than this to do your job.

Employability is more important than ever and often sits at the top of any university strategy. So the pressure is on to reach out and speak to each and every student.

The Careers Group wins HEFCE bid Learning Gain pilot project

HEFCE has awarded three years funding to The Careers Group, University of London for a new Learning Gain pilot project, where HEFCE, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Higher Education Academy research defines learning gain as improvement in knowledge, skills, work-readiness and personal development made by students during their time spent in higher education.

4000 attendees at University of London Undergraduate Fair

Almost 4000 prospective undergraduate students and their guests made their way to Senate House for the annual University of London Undergraduate Fair. They a got a taste of university life and had the opportunity to speak to 14 colleges and institutes.

All institutions that took part were from the University of London and had knowledgeable staff on hand to answer questions ranging from ‘what’s the best course for me?’ and ‘what do you look for in a personal statement?’
