The Careers Group’s Enhance Your Career and Employability Skills MOOC has won the prestigious 2015 AGCAS Award for Technology sponsored by TARGETjobs. The award was announced last night at the AGCAS Annual Conference for HE Careers and Employability Professionals conference dinner and awards ceremony in Warwick.
Beating off stiff competition from the ‘How to Succeed At..’ MOOCs from The University of Sheffield and The University of Aberdeen’s suite of online career courses, The Careers Group’s technology product was recognised as an excellent example of the innovative and effective use of technology in delivering employability services and enhancing the digital literacy of participants.
The 2014 iteration of the MOOC attracted over 89,000 active participants from over 200 countries and was the seventh largest MOOC ever to be offered through the Coursera platform, in terms of the number of registrations. So successful was the course (96% of participants rating the course excellent, very good or good) it was little surprise that the course was offered again in 2015 with a similarly impressive positive evaluation of 98%.
One of the instructors said: "The MOOC has been an incredibly successful project of The Careers Group and is a testament to the significant skills and energies of the whole team. Winning this national award is a fantastic achievement and illustrates how we can apply our careers management and professional development expertise within new technological landscapes. We’re all delighted and looking forward to working with our project partners, The University of London International Academy to take this project forward in the future".
Whilst participants across the world will need to wait for future iterations of the course to gain access to the expertise and guidance of careers consultants within The Careers Group, those same careers professionals are available for individual careers and professional development support via The Careers Group Consultancy. Both Senior Careers Consultant Laura and fellow instructor, David Winter, Head of Research and Consultancy regularly see clients for individual careers guidance appointments as do a range of colleagues, such as Hilary Moor, who also feature in the MOOC, which was shortlisted for a Career Development Institute Award in 2014, in addition to successfully winning the AGCAS award this year.
